JASON VOORHEES: THE PILLOWCASE

Jason Voorhees is a synoym for Friday the 13th franchise. Huge,numb, unstoppable serial killer with a face covered with a hockey mask terrifies and fascinates the audience for a couple of decades by now.

But, first we need to uncover some hardcore facts that go unnoticed too often.

In the first Friday the 13th movie, Jason wasn’t the killer. That honor went to his mommy dearest, Pamela Voorhees. Jason first appeared as a killer in part II of the franchise. His mother’s motivation was a revenge for the death of Jason and Jason’s motivation was a revenge for the death of his mother. It sounds paradoxical, but what can we do? Live with it.

Also, that iconic hockey mask wasn’t acquired by Jason until Friday the 13th part III.

When Jason appeared as a grown ass killer for the first time on TV screens and in theaters, he wore a bag on his head. Legendary gigantic mountain of a man-child began his murder spree -as a pillowcase.

This Jason isn’t supernatural, he doesn’t wake up from a fresh grave to hunt horny teens, no sir. His first victim is a final girl from the first part, who beheaded his mom. Then, he goes back to where all began , to a Camp Crystal Lake and there he continues his little adventure. Point being? This Jason is the most human like of all them all. He is walking around, lurking in the shadows, and for most of the time he looks like a rejected clansman.

And, can we talk creativity, ladies and gents? Ice picks, hammerclaw, axe, butcher knife…He knows business and he surely knows how to stand out from the crowd.

Another big plus for the PART II Jason -this is the first (of two) movies in the entire franchise where we can actually see his face, half of it looking like a messed up version of Freddy Kruger and other half looking like hillbilly Jim.

To conclude: Yes, part II Jason is more of a redneck, ,more of a pillowcase. But his realness and simplicity made him original and, in my humble opinion,the most unique of all the Jasons.
